TECHNO · TOKYO

STRATAH

STRATAH

STRATAH is as involved in building Tokyo’s underground as he is playing it. He founded OTO and DISCO CAGE, two parties that mirror his own approach behind the decks. Rolling drums and muscular low-end keep his sets rooted in techno, while bright trance lines gradually rise above them and pull the room somewhere more euphoric.

That same tension carries into his productions. “Lose Control” landed on OBSCUUR, the Berlin and Amsterdam label focused on fast, high-energy club music, followed by “Drop That” on NEOTRANCE this June. Back home, his rise has put him on lineups with Nico Moreno, Mac Declos and Takaaki Itoh across Ohjo Bldg., WOMB, clubasia and ZEROTOKYO.

STRATAH

Punchy drums and a driving bassline give it its momentum, while bright trance melodies push it toward the neo-rave territory associated with artists like Funk Tribu.

It’s playful, high-energy and unabashedly euphoric, a strong introduction to the lighter side of STRATAH’s sound.

Tokyo Beer Lab sits in Harajuku and calls itself a community platform before a music venue. In April it put STRATAH on and filmed the whole hour.

A playful, high-energy set that moves into more melodic, euphoric territory without ever losing its physical drive.

OTO with THE MUFFIN MAN

Secret location, Nishiazabu
OTO with THE MUFFIN MAN

STRATAH runs OTO, so the night doubles as a look at his taste as a curator. THE MUFFIN MAN brings her self-described “sewer grooves”: rolling, stripped-back techno built around gritty, slicing basslines. ERIMIYA brings years of Tokyo techno experience, with appearances stretching from Fuji Rock to WOMB and Vent. SOGI works through minimal techno, bass and tribal grooves, while STRATAH goes b2b with Butoh founder XINOVI, whose own sound moves through hard techno and hard trance.

  • THE MUFFIN MAN Bass that slices, drums that roll
  • ERIMIYA Psychedelic techno at full drive
  • SOGI Momentum in small movements
  • STRATAH Rolling techno, trance rising
  • XINOVI Hard trance with a techno kick
