François X

François X is back for September’s XX LAB on Rinse France, fresh from Bound States, his June EP pairing the soul of Black American dance music with the clean lines of European techno. He finds intensity in subtlety, letting tension and emotion carry more weight than sheer force. This edition feels especially soulful, with gospel vocals cutting through the mix and bringing a little more warmth to his usual restraint, all without losing sight of the dancefloor.

ÜBERKIKZ

Her Royal Grooviness was just announced for a year-long residency at Fuse in Brussels, well deserved. This one leans into the more tribal and pulse-driven side of ÜBERKIKZ, with folkloric touches and strange little textures giving the mix an almost ritualistic edge. There’s no shortage of ÜBERKIKZ mixes to dig through, and this GRÜV x BCCO recording from Paris slides neatly into an already deep archive worth revisiting.

Now we’re just patiently waiting for NYC to get its turn.

Alarico & Yanamaste

Yalarico at Stone Techno was probably the most anticipated set of the whole festival, and we were there for it. Alarico closed the stage he’d curated alongside Yanamaste, the two halves merging into Yalarico: the final boss of the weekend. Loop-heavy grooves collide with raw, tribal pressure and meticulous sound design, fusing into a tightly wound mix of loops, tension and finely detailed percussion. Lucky for us, this one was recorded.

Laure Croft

Laure Croft’s mantra is “keep it sexy,” and this SECTION set knows when to flirt and when to bite. True to her tune raider moniker, she unearths one seductive weapon after another, building a steady acceleration of tension that keeps the room simmering at the edge of release for nearly an hour.

FENIM0RE

By closing night at Glitch, anyone still on the floor had already made their priorities clear. FENIM0RE rewards them with dubby stabs flickering over slippery rhythms, with just enough funk in the machinery to keep the whole thing loose at the hips. It’s raw without being blunt, playful without losing its bite. Two years into his career, there’s already a striking confidence in how naturally he commands a floor.
