Your 3am energy is partly genetic
You're not lazy, you're a night owl
Some people are wired to run late, and you got about half of that from your parents. It peaks when you're young, too. So if you come alive at 3am, that's just how you're built, and the dancefloor is one of the few places that agrees with you.
WHY YOU'RE STILL UP AT 3AM
| You get it from your parents | About half of it |
| They found the genes | 351 of them |
| In your twenties | Your clock runs latest |
| As you age | You'll become a morning person |
Twin studies put chronotype, your natural early-or-late setting, at 44 to 47% heritable, and a 697,828-person genome study found 351 spots in your DNA tied to it, with the genetic extremes sleeping about 25 minutes apart. The clock runs latest when you're young and drifts earlier for life. So no, you're not lazy, and yes, the dancefloor runs on your time.
