Not backing off is harassment too

You do not have to touch anyone for it to count. Researchers asked 153 women about unwanted attention on nights out, and they asked about two things: touching, and advances that kept coming. Over 75% had had one of them, and 46% had had both.

Most nos are not said out loud

A no is usually something you see, not something you hear. The same women named six ways they made it stop: moving away, a look, saying it out loud, aggression, a friend stepping in, and leaving. Only one of those six is words.

One answer should be enough

Even with no touching, it leaves something behind. The women described feeling disrespected, angry and embarrassed. Whatever the first answer looks like, a look, a turn away, a friend appearing, take it.
